Test & Verification Engineer

Status: Exempt (Salaried)

Department: CTO – Advanced System Technologies

Location: Montreal

Position Summary

The Test & Verification Engineer is an important member of the CTO’s Advanced System Technologies Organization and will be a professional representative of Plug Power, a key interface for system and component designers, and a test program leader responsible for developing and executing characterization & verification test plans.

This role is critical to the functionality of the engineering team and will assist in furthering Plug Power’s products to exceed customer’s expectations. The ideal engineering candidate should be highly motivated to contribute to a rapidly growing company and passionate about lending their technical expertise within a dynamic and collaborative work environment.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Test planning, test and equipment requirements, test execution and reporting, with focus on design verification (DV) and validation of products
  • Conduct and monitor tests on a variety of components, subsystems, systems, and fixtures, as per design verification plans
  • Analyze and interpret data collected providing feedback to design teams and making appropriate design recommendations
  • Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs), test plans, reports, and other test related documentation with continual improvement in mind
  • Review existing testing protocols and implement improvements to previous testing programs, as needed
  • Development and use of advanced diagnostic techniques for evaluation of fuel cell stack, balance-of-plant (BOP) & system performance and durability
  • Develop testing protocols, troubleshooting, and solving complex technical problems
  • Ensure testing procedures and equipment comply with required industry standards
  • Coordinate with New Product Introduction (NPI) and Engineering teams to improve system tests and throughput
  • Support multiple testing programs with management of testing resource capability and capacity
  • Assist with new test equipment specification, sourcing, installation and/or operation, commissioning, and troubleshooting
  • Execute or provide training to support functional characterization, accelerated stress, durability, ambient and cold-startup evaluations
  • Work to develop a fundamental understanding of failure modes, including identification and investigation
  • May execute or coordinate support for NVH and other environmental testing to meet customer or program requirements
  • Travel to various supplier and customer locations as required
  • May contribute to budgetary forecast and planning
  • May perform other duties, as assigned

Required Education and Experience

  • Some experience in testing hydrogen fuel cell or battery related technologies highly preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering, electro-mechanical engineering, engineering physics, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in a fast-paced product development environment
  • Strong knowledge of National Instruments based data acquisition systems, including LabVIEW programming
  • Good knowledge of structural design, thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid flow design and selection of mechanical components
  • Practical experience with mechanical and electrical systems, with troubleshooting ability, is highly preferable
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated analytical abilities
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • Experience creating and implement test plans for verifying designs
  • Computer and software systems skills as applicable to position including but not limited to: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and multi-task effectively
  • Demonstrate high standards of professionalism
  • Demonstrated excellence in follow-through on projects
  • Must be driven and self-motivated
  • Exempt employees are expected to work as many hours as is necessary to complete their job responsibilities. This may require they work more than eight hours a day and more than five days or 40 hours per week.

Pay Rate:

$75,000.00 - $108,000.00
