This position offers the rewarding opportunity to lend your outreach, communications, and event-planning aptitude and experience to further the mission of enrollment and program growth within the Department of Philosophy at the University of Mississauga (UTM Philosophy).


Reporting to the Department Manager, taking primary direction from the Department Chair, and working closely with the other department staff, you will be responsible for outreach, communications, and event planning initiatives, including but not limited to: Promoting, coordinating, managing, and developing content for the annual Ontario High School Ethics Bowl debate events, both at the provincial level and the national competition level, facilitating registration and team preparation for Ethics Bowl teams, developing content for the production and dissemination of outreach/communication/promotion materials, coordinating tasks for projects and other strategic initiatives with stakeholders, developing content for enrolment and program enhancement, initiatives, drafting written materials for presentations, visiting high schools and doing presentations oriented toward student recruitment to the programs of UTM Philosophy.


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as the first point of contact for marketing/brand enquiries
  • Determining the logistics required for the drafting, production and dissemination of marketing/communication materials
  • Assisting with enrolment and program enhancement initiatives
  • Coordinating tasks for projects and other strategic initiatives with stakeholders
  • Coordinating marketing project activities with creative professionals and vendors
  • Developing content for enrolment, program, marketing and/or promotional materials
  • Editing content for style and tone
  • Consulting with clients regarding the development of marketing and/or communication materials

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications and/or philosophy
  • Minimum four (4) years of relevant experience in a university environment, with a minimum of one (1) year of experience in outreach, communication to audiences and/or event planning, especially in relation to philosophy preferred
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency with social media platforms
  • Experience with developing and delivering presentations and coordinating outreach initiatives
  • Experience with website content management and developing marketing and/or promotional materials
  • Experience with social media analytics and interpretation
  • Experience collaborating with various stakeholders to execute successful outreach, marketing strategies and events
  • Knowledge of some philosophy and philosophy programs and/or promoting such programs is an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Excellent time management and organization skills
