Your Opportunity:

Under the general direction of the Senior Director, Campus Safety Operations the Manager, Administration and Finance is responsible for the management of complex financial and administration functions required to meet the goals and objectives of the Department of Campus Safety Operations.

In this role, the Manager, Administration and Finance assists and advises the Senior Director, Campus Safety Operations on financial strategies for the department, develops, manages and monitors operating, ancillary, and self-funded budgets and provides operational management and human resources management within the department. The Manager, Administration and Finance, is an active participant in the department’s strategic planning process.

The Manager, Administration and Finance, manages the department’s financial administration staff, including hiring, supervision and performance management. The Manager, Administration and Finance provide oversight to the department’s financial, administrative and central service functions. The Manager, Administration and Finance oversee the Department’s budgets (operating, ancillary and self-funded), financial processes and financial forecasting.

The Manager, Administration and Finance, works collaboratively with the department’s management team. The Manager, Administration and Finance, leads operational projects, financial performance reviews and the purchasing and administration of the department’s computer equipment and other assets.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating meetings, schedules, agendas, materials, action and follow-up items
  • Preparing budgets for units in the department
  • Forecasting revenues and expenditures
  • Conducting financial analyses and making recommendations to address budget implications
  • Developing and implementing business process improvements
  • Reviewing financial controls to ensure financial integrity
  • Overall responsibility for human resources related to the department’s administrative staff.


Qualifications Required:

EDUCATION:

  • University degree in Business Administration, Commerce or related field and completion of CPA certification and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant and progressive experience in financial management and administration, preferably in a post-secondary environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex budgets.
  • Experience administering accounting policies and procurement policies
  • Demonstrated experience providing financial advice to senior management and participating in strategic planning.
  • Experience managing, leading, and coaching staff in a unionized environment.
  • Working knowledge of University of Toronto policies and procedures and their application is a definite asset.
  • High level of proficiency with MS Office software (Excel and Word) and advanced knowledge of finance and accounting.
  • Sound working knowledge of FIS and HRIS (SAP) or equivalent systems is essential.
  • Must have excellent: organizational and time management skills, oral and written communication skills, analytical, problem-solving, and financial and administrative skills.
  • Must be able to manage competing deadlines and a variety of complex projects simultaneously. Must be willing to respond to/and manage shifting priorities.
  • Must be service oriented and responsive to the needs of the department and their clients.
  • Must have the ability to adapt to new technology and to work effectively in an interdisciplinary environment and keep up to date on the rapid changes in the University environment.
