YOUR OPPORTUNITY
Working as an integral part of the collaborative HR team, the incumbent provides a wide range of human resource services to clients (both faculty and staff) within the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering.
The HR Advisor is responsible for the full cycle recruitment and selection process for administrative staff; job design and evaluation; salary administration; interpretation and application of collective agreements, employee policies and practices, as well as Human Resources and University policies. The HR Advisor consults with departmental managers and administrators regarding effective human resource management concepts and practices and provides advice regarding employee relations.
The HR Advisor works on special projects and strategic initiatives related to improving HR services, institutional improvements, employee development etc. The incumbent is also responsible for establishing, maintaining and improving a number of internal HR databases and record keeping systems and preparing a variety of reports.
The responsibilities of the incumbent continuously evolve and are flexible and responsive to the given priorities of the day, working collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
University degree in a relevant field of study; completion of (or working towards) Certificate in Human Resource Management (CHRP) or equivalent; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience:
- 2 - 3 years’ experience working in a Human Resources office with experience in recruitment, job evaluation, general advising related to policy and collective agreement interpretation preferred
- Familiarity with academic environments an asset
- Experience working with databases, applicant tracking systems and/or HRIS / Payroll systems
Skills:
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Strong attention to detail, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Intermediate skills with MS Office Suite (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, Teams)
- Ability to exercise a high degree of sensitivity, responsiveness, and confidentiality regarding sensitive human resources issues
- Ability to take the initiative and work independently with minimal supervision
- Knowledge of, and the ability to interpret and apply collective agreements and legislation relevant to employment practices
Other:
- Must have demonstrated the ability to build effective working relationships in a manner that engenders support and cooperation

- Demonstrated strong client service orientation and ability to act in a welcoming and professional manner with a wide variety of contacts
