Your opportunity:
The Rotman Commerce program is offered jointly by the Rotman School of Management and the Faculty of Arts and Science. It is a highly respected, highly competitive program within the business, financial and academic communities. Rotman Commerce serves approximately 3,300 in-program undergraduate business students as well as over 18,000 graduates of the Bachelor of Commerce program. Rotman Commerce offers its students a rich and rigorous academic program alongside ample opportunities to develop themselves personally and professionally.
As the Career Advisor, Core Services, you will work with a team of career service professionals to ensure students and recent alumni are prepared to enter the job market with confidence and a solid understanding of how their strengths, values and interests are coherent with their identity and program of study.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Coaching students on a variety of career related topics including resumes and cover letters, job search strategies, interviewing, goal setting and more; increasing students' confidence and self-efficacy. Advising and coaching students on developing career-related goals
- Identifying gaps or growth opportunities in career education and development programming; building and revising programming to meet student needs
- Delivering and managing career education and development programming
- Building and revising career education resources and content including but not limited to building asynchronous learning modules
- Facilitating workshops, webinars; reviewing and assessing feedback received
- Keeping well-informed on industry and career education best practices
- Promoting programs and service offerings to internal and/or external contacts
- Fostering cooperative working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external contacts
Essential Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in adult education or related field; or acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience
- Minimum five (5) years full time, relevant, progressively more senior experience, in designing and planning career development programs (or a related field)
- Experience facilitating and presenting; experience in coaching or advising (preferably within a university setting)
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of adult education principles
- Ability to utilize technology, including social media, as an education tool
- Demonstrated written, oral and interpersonal skills
- Strong project and program management skills; organized, ability to handle a variety of projects, deadlines and schedules simultaneously and under minimal supervision
- Knowledge of career services as well as campus recruiting
- Collaborative team approach and positive attitude
- Outstanding customer service focus and the ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people at different levels of the University and with external stakeholders is essential
- Must have a good understanding of business students and employment markets
- Demonstrated decision-making skills in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Tact, discretion, sensitivity to confidential matters
- Strong computer skills; sound working knowledge of MS Office; experience with databases and Content Management Systems
- Ability to work outside of normal office hours for event support
Assets (Nonessential):
- Career coaching certification
- Experience working with post-secondary students in a university environment
- Experience or knowledge in business communities such as finance, accounting, management, or marketing
