About us:
The Enterprise Applications and Solutions Integration (EASI) department within the Chief Information Officer’s (CIO) Division is a central department responsible for all matters pertaining to the development, maintenance and effectiveness of the core administrative management and student systems at the U of T. Included within these responsibilities are all central SAP systems, such as Financial Services, Human Resources, Research Administration and Procurement; the central U of T Student System (ROSI); approximately 40 related vendor and specialized web applications; and the University's MS365 tenant and enterprise Azure platform.
Your opportunity:
Under the direction of the Manager, Reporting and Analytics Technology Administration, you will be part of a dynamic, collaborative and innovative team focused on delivering transformational reporting and visualization technology solutionsto the University. Through your efforts in this position, you will help define, develop and support a Power BI reporting platform for the University and its Divisions.
You will be responsible for investigating, testing, planning, and assisting in the implementation of central Power BI platform resources, ensuring their successful deployment and ongoing support for the University of Toronto. As a key member of EASI’s Power BI development team, you will design, develop, and secure Power BI operational datasets, data marts, and reports for divisional users.
In addition, you will serve as a technical and training resource, directly assisting divisional users with onboarding to Power BI and supporting their transition to the platform. This will involve developing and maintaining comprehensive onboarding and support materials, conducting training sessions as needed, and identifying further training opportunities to enhance user adoption.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Assessing user needs and business processes to develop programming solutions within Power BI and Azure platforms.
- Writing complex technical code that adheres to industry standards and meets client requirements.
- Designing semantic models and optimizing databases by strategically planning data models to ensure efficient and effective use of data resources.
- Developing comprehensive technical application implementation plans.
- Evaluating proposed system/application changes and providing recommendations for improvement.
- Creating and refining program scripts to extract, reformat, and analyze data using Power BI and Fabric.
- Producing detailed technical documentation and user support guides to advance Reporting and Analytics Technology initiatives.
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Mathematics, Statistics or Computer Science, or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum of four years of experience in data and analytics solutions, with a strong emphasis on Power BI.
- Proven expertise in developing, securing, and distributing enterprise-level solutions on the Power BI platform.
- Experience in data engineering, including the design and creation of institutional data models and datasets/datamarts for Power BI reporting.
- Ability to investigate, test, and implement new or enhanced features within an institutional Power BI environment.
- Experience in user training, including the development of user guides and learning materials.
- Background in Agile methodology, working as part of an enterprise-level team to design and develop centralized reporting solutions using Power BI.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and Azure SQL databases.
- Familiarity with Python for data analysis and automation.
- Experience with data transformation in data lakes.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage a diverse audience.
- Highly organized, capable of managing multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
