Your opportunity:
The Lawrence Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time Research Officer who will oversee a Tri-Council-funded study aimed at improving person-centered care and resident well-being in long-term care homes. This study will examine ethical tensions healthcare workers experience in implementing infection prevention and control protocols while working to maintain a person-centered approach to care, and to explore the impact these tensions have on residents and family caregivers.
Under the general direction of the Principal Investigator, the incumbent will provide research, and administrative support to a multimethod knowledge translation study. Responsibilities include: performing a review of relevant and current research literature; managing all research ethics applications and amendments; coordinating site and participant recruitment; overseeing data collection; maintaining contact with study participants at study sites; executing strategies to engage participants in the project; maintaining data within databases; assisting with data analysis; participating in study meetings, and providing updates and reports as required; assisting with training and supervision of research assistants; coordinating communications with Advisory Committees; and participating in the preparation of reports and manuscripts. The Research Officer is also responsible for administrative duties pertaining to research, such as ensuring study records are maintained, filed, and stored appropriately, and performing or delegating data collection tasks to research assistants.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Drafting and submitting documented procedures to the Research Ethics Board (REB) for approval
- Conducting systematic literature reviews
- Implementing and executing qualitative and/or quantitative research methods
- Maintaining project records
- Coordinating meeting schedules, agendas, materials, action and follow-up items
- Overseeing the data collection and analysis processes
- Fostering positive relationships with project partners
- Drafting summaries of research project results
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in the health sciences (nursing, public health, medicine etc.), or social sciences (sociology, psychology) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum two (2) years of relevant health-related work experience conducting research, analyzing, interpreting and reporting on results.
- Working knowledge and/or strong interest in health services research and knowledge translation.
- Experience coordinating qualitative research projects.
- Experience with qualitative data collection including participant recruitment, interpretation and analysis.
- Demonstrated experience implementing qualitative research methodologies (e.g. interview, focus groups).
- Experience performing qualitative data analysis.
- Demonstrated experience drafting summaries of research results, preparing written materials for knowledge translation purposes and conducting literature reviews.
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office), and database management (RedCap).
- Proficiency with qualitative software and coding (e.g. NVivo).
- Strong communications skills (oral and written).
- Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to multi-task and manage competing deadlines.
Assets (Nonessential):
- Master’s degree in health sciences, Social Sciences, or Health Services Research.
- Knowledge or background in knowledge translation.
