Role Description

We’re looking for a data professional to support our growing portfolio of early-stage start-ups and internal teams. On the Data & Research team, you will work closely with our Head of Research – and your work will directly inform decisions on hiring, go-to-market moves, and even investment theses.

If you’re excited about turning messy questions into clean, impactful data outputs — and getting exposure to how top startups and VCs operate — this role is for you.

What you will be doing

You’ll support SignalFire by generating data-driven insights and prospect lists, primarily for hiring and go-to-market (GTM) targeting initiatives. Your responsibilities will include:

• Translating open-ended or unstructured requests into clear, actionable data queries
• Working directly in SQL within the SignalFire database to extract and analyze relevant data
• Leveraging both internal tools and external datasets (including AI-enabled platforms) to build high-quality lists of candidates or prospects based on complex criteria
• Delivering outputs in Google Sheets, with an emphasis on accuracy, consistency, and usability
• Proactively asking clarifying questions to align deliverables with business needs
• Performing quality checks to ensure data completeness and relevance

You may also assist with broader research and analytics to support SignalFire’s investment strategy, including market mapping, competitive analysis, or firm-level data aggregation.

Your background

• Strong proficiency in SQL
• High fluency in Google Sheets and data preparation
• Strong attention to detail and end-user experience
• BS/MS in data science or a similarly quantitative field
• Comfort with ambiguity and turning unstructured requests into technical solutions
• Availability during PST or EST hours

Nice-to-haves

• Familiarity with GTM or recruiting workflows
• Experience with Hubspot or Looker (or other dashboarding tools)
• Curiosity about AI tools and how they can enhance research
