We are looking for a candidate with strong tax, analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills to join our highly engaged, high-reaching and experienced team in downtown Toronto. In this role, you’ll have responsibility for managing the US tax compliance function. This will include all aspects of tax compliance and reporting as well as ongoing and special projects.

We believe that time together in the office is important for OMERS and Oxford, the strength of our employees, and the work we do for our pension members. Our hybrid work guideline requires teams to come to the office a minimum of 4 days per week.

As a member of this team, you will be responsible for:

Tax Compliance and Reporting:

  • Liaise with internal and external support functions to ensure US federal and state tax returns and other tax filings are completed timely and accurately. This also includes:

  • Foreign reporting such as 5471, 5472, Base Erosion Anti-Abuse Tax and others.

  • Calculation of basis, earnings and profits and amounts subject to withholding.

  • Ensure timely remittance of required tax payments, withholding taxes, quarterly installments, etc. Manage/review FATCA requirements globally. Manage the US tax compliance budget. Assist with monitoring and reporting changes in US tax law. Manage or assist with US income tax audits at the federal and state level.

Ongoing and Special Projects

  • Provide ongoing support for other business units, including the communication of US tax issues and risk. Provide support/assist with internal reorganizations to optimize existing and upcoming tax structures as well as other transactions. Recommend, develop, and implement new processes to continually improve tax compliance.

To succeed in this role, you have:

  • 5+ years of experience and credentials that reflect a background with progressive US tax exposure (compliance, provisions and research)

  • CPA designation (US designation preferred, but a Canadian designation is an asset)

  • Bachelor of Commerce, Business Administration, Finance or Equivalent

  • Knowledge of finance/accounting principles

  • Thrives on the challenge of delivering world-class outcomes while managing multiple priorities with competing deadlines

  • Enjoys solving problems on your own and with others; in preparing and self-reviewing detailed analyses; and in breaking down big projects to achievable components

  • Demonstrates an ownership mindset and takes accountability for their responsibilities

  • Demonstrates sound judgement and critical thinking.

  • Ability to identify and implement tax strategies in line with the organization’s overall goals, objectives and risk profile.
