Position Overview

Apollo’s Portfolio Performance Solutions (APPS) team seeks to create value by engaging with portfolio companies from the very beginning of our partnership – offering expertise, support and resources to help position each company for growth. APPS applies the scale and expertise of Apollo to help build better companies. Apollo’s success is predicated on the success of each business within the funds’ portfolio. The team consists of functional experts and generalists who support Apollo’s investments from diligence through exit. The APPS team sits within Apollo Private Equity and works in close collaboration with investment professionals across the firm to develop and execute value creation processes that support the investments and maintain tools and platforms to drive value creation.

The Role

The role of the COO for APPS is to own and execute the operations of the APPS department, including partnering with the Head of APPS on team strategy and operating model, development and sharing of value creation processes, building team culture, driving strategic initiatives, reporting and tracking, and management of supporting resources and platforms. While the functional leaders and operating partners formally report to the Head of APPS, the COO works closely with the Head of APPS and all team members to coach and advise them on how to engage most effectively with Apollo’s investments, within the firm, and third-party providers.

Primary Responsibilities

  • The APPS COO is responsible for overseeing, optimizing, and executing the team’s operational functions and infrastructure.

  • Oversee APPS operational activities including finance, cost allocation, team allocation, administrative support, and 3rd party consultant tracking.

  • Build APPS culture and lead team forums (i.e., regular team meetings) within the APPS team and with various firm stakeholders.

  • Support the Head of APPS to develop and maintain the APPS strategy and operating model, executing analyses on team milestones, outcomes, etc., and communicating the strategy to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Develop and maintain APPS playbooks and documentation of best practices, while supporting the broader team in developing and deploying functional-specific playbooks, where appropriate. Partner with teams in APPS to track playbook usage and improve the processes outlined in them.

  • Maintain the Consultant Tracking System (with supervisee support), track consultant engagements, optimize vendor relationships, and reporting.

  • Build relationships with top 3rd party Consultants, running regular check-ins to improve partnerships between consultants and APPS.

  • Support the Head of APPS to lead the annual Apollo CEO Conference, including speaker selection, content development, and logistics, including coordination with event planning team.

  • Supervise the ongoing maintenance and development of the Portfolio Company Portal (with supervisee support), which is a communication platform used to interface with portfolio company executives

  • Supervise the Admin Team Rep who coordinates the team administrative staff and oversees team onboarding, coverages, office management, and administrative staff coaching.

  • Act as conduit across the broader Apollo organization, solving problems on behalf of the team and helping support them to identify resources and data necessary for their jobs.

  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance team efficiency and effectiveness.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Professional Experience: 10+ of Years of professional experience

  • Education: MBA strongly preferred

  • Industry knowledge: Background in consulting from a top firm, private equity operations, or as a transformation officer within a business.

  • Change management: Demonstrated success driving complex initiatives across senior-level stakeholders

  • Cross-functional engagement: Individual Contributor seat with demonstrated success working across internal teams, while influencing others towards desired goals

  • Financial acumen: Expertise in budgeting, cost allocation, and data reporting; strong expertise in Excel

  • Communication skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills; proficiency in building clear, concise, and effective PowerPoint presentations; proficiency in presenting to senior-level stakeholders

Pay Range

$250,000-$300,000

The base salary range for this position is listed above. This position is also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus based on personal, team, and Firm performance. Compensation ranges are based on several factors including job function, level, and geographic location. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed here.
