Occupational Summary

Perform a variety of technical duties involved in conducting standardized tests, experiments, and determinations in support of research-oriented activities at Duke University.

Work Performed

Performing and assisting with mouse-related experiments including micro CT imaging, drug administration, tumor induction, and dissections

Wet-lab research involving tissue culture and mouse models investigating mechanisms of small-cell lung cancer biology

Communication and collaboration with lab members toward the goals above, including participation in one-on-one, small group, and lab-related meetings and journal clubs

Presentation of data and objectives in written and oral forms, including documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and other reports

Training of lab members and/or visiting researchers in lab-related processes and/or experimental techniques

Organizational tasks associated with setting up the Oliver Lab and individual training, including but not limited to equipment set-up, ordering supplies, preparation of organizational documents, software, and systems, participation in mouse, biosafety, and training protocols, etc.

Perform a variety of technical duties involved in conducting physical, chemical, or biological tests, experiments, and determinations to obtain data in support of research-oriented activities; compile and document procedures and results.

Set up instruments, materials, and apparatus and operate standard laboratory equipment required for specific tests.

Operate various electronic devices in the collection, tabulation, and calculation of data. Obtain, prepare, mount, and stain tissue, blood, and other substances for microscopic examinations.

Prepare culture media, chemicals, reagents, and solutions. Assist in the development of new research procedures and techniques.

Maintain sufficient inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment for performance of duties; clean and maintain standard laboratory equipment. Review work of lower-level laboratory personnel and assist in the training of new personnel.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
