Internal Medicine & Pediatrics Primary Care - North Durham

Job Summary

Provide a full spectrum of primary and acute care to both adult and pediatric patients; conduct histories and physicals; order and interpret laboratory studies; perform basic outpatient procedures; and provide direct patient care services.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Expected to work independently seeing already established internal medicine and pediatric patients within the practice, and has the option in building/managing a panel of patients across the age spectrum while meeting needs of the practice
  • Will have 8 four-hour clinical sessions a week.
  • Work Saturday and evening clinics in addition to weekday responsibilities, consistent with other practice members.
  • Take patient histories, conduct physical examinations, and plan assessments for patients based on age and medical issues.
  • Expected to be well versed in health care maintenance guidelines for all ages, including but not limited to vaccinations, anticipatory guidance, cancer screening and cardiovascular risk assessments
  • Be able to prescribe medication and recommend procedures as needed
  • Coordinate care for patients
  • Write notes in Epic for each patient seen and have them closed within 3 business days.
  • Order laboratory and radiologic studies as needed; explain necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic studies to the patient.
  • Be able to interpret studies and explain results to patients in a timely manner.
  • Be able to see medically complex children and adults and be able to coordinate care as needed with specialists, therapists, and home health companies
  • Be able to fill out forms for school, home health agencies, insurance companies, and therapists
  • Complete office procedures such as minor skin procedures, joint injections, etc. If interested, may be involved with procedures, such as ear piercing, Nexplanon insertion
  • Help create effective systems and protocols to enhance the clinic’s operations as needed
  • Take part in practice’s conferences, Division meetings, and CMEs
  • Regularly participate in various relevant educational programs to ensure both technical and professional competence are maintained.

Job Eligibility Requirements

Education

  • Nurse Practitioners: Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.
  • Physician Assistants: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.

Certification

  • BLS required before start

License

  • Nurse Practitioners: Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required. National certification as a NP required prior to or within 6 months of employment.
  • Physician Assistants: Must be licensed in the state of NC, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.

Experience

  • 1+ years of APP experience preferred, but not required.

Job Hours

Monday-Friday, day shift and Saturday and evening clinics.
