The mission of the Center for Child and Family Policy is to contribute to solutions to important problems affecting today’s children and families, through an integrated system of scientific research, debate and dissemination, public service, and teaching. The Center emphasizes the bridge from basic research to policy and practice.
Position Description
Perform a variety of duties involved in the collection, interpretation and documentation of data in support of research and informational gathering activities.
Work Performed
Perform a variety of duties involved in collecting, interpreting, documenting and summarizing descriptive, analytical and evaluative data in support of research and informational gathering activities. Data collection measures utilized include: paper instruments; online instruments that may be interviewer-based or participant-driven and self-administered surveys using a variety of software formatting.
Procure data through observation, interviews and analysis of records and other sources to include the utilization of electronic equipment and devices. This project requires the administration of survey instruments as well as physical health measures including biological samples.
Coordinate and participate in the coding and keypunching of data in preparation for computer processing; record data on standard forms assigning codes, writing abstracts or summaries and making graphic representation as required. Requires detailed tracking notes to maintain current and historic contact information.
Maintain files of data cards and related information. Assist in preparation of reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendations or conclusions. Utilize search methods and tools to locate and recruit participants for continued participation in longitudinal research project.
Recommend new methods for collection and documentation of data; assist in the revision of procedural manuals as required.
Participate in updated training of personnel when new or revised data collection methods are required.
Travel within western North Carolina area is requisite to the collection of data. Reliable transportation is required.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training
Work generally requires a bachelor's degree in a field related to the specific position.
Experience
Prior experience using a variety of survey and interviewing assessments preferred. Prior experience working with research and the public preferred.
OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Skills
Microsoft Office competence. General data collection skills. Strong communication skills with telephone, email, and in-person.
