Reporting to the Water Conservation Supervisor, the Utilities Conservation Coordinator – Education and Outreach, is responsible for coordinating water conservation education and outreach programs, projects, and events. Develops and implements new programs and projects to increase water conservation initiatives and awareness in the Georgetown water utility’s service area. This role assists with the Controller Assistance Program and other areas as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Communicates and interacts with the public to promote an understanding of water conservation.

  • Staff will take the lead on building relationships and maintaining networks with ISDs, community organizations, businesses, developers, other departments, and partners. This includes, but is not limited to, a monthly or quarterly newsletter or email to maintain engagement.

  • Prepares and makes formal presentations to Homeowners Associations, civic organizations, and at public events.

  • This role requires independent and teamwork situations, as well as innovation, self-initiative, and self-decision making.

  • This role is required to attend all conservation-hosted and participation events.

  • This role is the lead in planning, coordinating, and executing events hosted by the conservation team, as well as coordinating events the team participates.

  • This role is responsible for ensuring that all functions and duties related to facilities, equipment, vendors, and staff are properly managed before and after the planned event.

  • Serves as the event coordinator for events hosted by the conservation team and at events the team participates in, they will ensure that the team’s site is set up and prepared.

  • Will research and develop new educational materials and programs for water conservation initiatives.

  • Must be knowledgeable of the water conservation rebate program, its requirements, application process, and benefits.

  • Monitors and evaluates existing water conservation programs to determine customer participation, actual usage reduction, and overall effectiveness of program; revises program as appropriate.

  • Conducts irrigation system audits, evaluating consumption data, recommending irrigation controller settings, and suggesting more efficient water usage options.

  • Assists in City policies, procedures, and regulations for the water conservation program; researches water conservation policies, best practices, and legislation to recommend changes to conservation initiatives.

  • Collaborates with other area water conservation personnel to benchmark water and drought restrictions and programs and to implement common water conservation policies and standards, when appropriate.

  • Plans, coordinates, and staffs special events, workshops, and educational programs for local schools to promote water conservation; works with other city departments to promote water conservation.

  • Purchases and maintains inventory of conservation aids and promotional materials for presentations, public events, and for use by other departments promoting conservation through other forums.

  • This role requires weekend, evening, or other shifts outside of normal working hours in various settings.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Environmental Studies, Natural Science, Education, or in a closely related field. OR High school diploma or equivalent with any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Knowledge of:

  • Water efficiency technologies, practices, programs, and rebate requirements.

  • Safety practices and procedures.

  • Education and outreach events and programming.

  • Federal, State, and Local water conservation laws, regulations, practices, and techniques.

Skill in:

  • Analyzing the effectiveness of conservation programs and initiating program improvements.

  • Event planning, coordinating, and facilitation.

  • Communicating effectively, orally and in writing.

  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

  • Planning and goal setting.

  • Using computers and related software.

  • Implementing programs and related policies and procedures.

  • Develop and administer appropriate program training and communications materials.

  • Making judgments pertaining to repair needs and supply needs.

  • Finding safe, effective solutions to problems.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid Class "C" Texas driver’s license required. Out-of-state license holders must have a valid license and provide a three (3) year driving history.

  • Environmental education certification within six (6) months.

  • Licensed Irrigation Technician certification within one (1) year.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, crouching, bending, vision, hearing, talking, and use of foot controls.

  • This role is considered an essential employee working with the water utility and may be required to work in inclement weather situations.

Hiring Range: $56,434.04 - $70,678.40, annually.
