At Georgetown’s Electric Utility, we’re passionate about powering our community—and we’re looking for an equally enthusiastic student to join us this summer! This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with the strategic planning process of a municipally owned electric utility.

The Electric Utility Strategic Planning Intern will work under the direction of the Utility’s Chief Business Officer and collaborate with departments across the utility. The primary focus of the internship will be supporting the utility’s strategic initiatives by helping track progress, organizing data, and assist in implementing key tactics outlined in various strategic plans.

Duties Include:

  • Assist in monitoring and tracking progress of strategic plan goals and tactics.

  • Compile and analyze data using Microsoft Excel and related tools.

  • Participate in meetings with electric utility staff, learning about the electric portfolio, financial forecast, and key account functions.

  • Support meeting preparation by helping with agendas, summaries, and visual aids such as PowerPoint presentations.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

The City is seeking a student who is curious, organized, and interested in city government, electric utilities, or strategic planning. Applicants must be detail-oriented and enjoy working with spreadsheets, timelines, and data.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university or recently graduated (within the past 6 months).

  • Completed at least enough credit hours to be classified as a junior.

  • Preferred majors include Public Administration, Business, Engineering, Finance, or related fields.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Familiarity with utility operations or interest in community-owned electric utilities.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal).

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Comfortable working independently and in a team setting.

  • Experience with task tracking tools (like Monday or Trello) is a plus.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Valid Class C Texas Driver's license

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, kneeling, crouching, crawling, bending, twisting, climbing, balancing, vision, hearing, talking.

EMPLOYMENT TESTING:

Employment is contingent on passing post-offer, pre-employment drug testing, criminal background investigation and driving record check.
